Children are at first encouraged to complete scenes that only require scribbling--i.e. drawing spaghetti on a plate. Then, a food item is shown colored in except for a white shape in the middle; children will at first color messily over this area, but eventually progress to coloring inside the lines neatly.
By the end, children are coloring entire portions of a picture, such as a banana, flouds, lions' manes and more.
